The Koger Center for the Arts is located on the campus of The University of South Carolina and is also owned and operated by the university. It has been open since 1989 and was named for Ira & Nancy Koger. They made a substantial donation from personal and corporate funds to help construct this $15 million center. It is a beautiful center that celebrates theater and the performing arts. The first performance ever given here was by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. On average about 535 events take place each year at the Koger Center for the Arts, in addition to music classes and rehearsals. It is also the regular performance hall for the USC Symphony Orchestra. Their website gives visitors a full calendar of events so you can plan a visit here around what you’d like to see. You can also purchase tickets online for the different events.
The Koger Center for the Arts is also available for organizations to rent out. There are specific guidelines that each group must follow, whether it is a non-profit or profit organization. It is a very large facility with seating for over 2,000 people but because of structural limitations and a busy seasonal schedule they do not accept wedding requests or Christmas party requests. If you enjoy the theater you can subscribe to anyone of their seasonal packages. Some of their offerings include Broadway in Columbia, which showcases familiar performances from Broadway and Columbia Classical Ballet.
The Marriott Columbia Hotel is conveniently located minutes from the Koger Center for the Arts. So, if you’re visiting the area for one of their many wonderful performances you don’t have to worry about traveling far to get there. In addition to their terrific location in downtown Columbia, the Marriott Columbia has so much to offer its guests. Whether you’re traveling from near or far, you will be surrounded by cozy accommodations that provide a restful and comfortable stay. The staff is exceptional and works hard to make your visit a memorable one. The Marriott Columbia Hotel is really the perfect choice for those who are planning a visit to the Koger Center for the Arts.
