The University of South Carolina Columbia is one of the most popular colleges in the country. With its beautiful sprawling campus in downtown Columbia it has also become a major tourist attraction. Throughout the years this school has made tremendous strides. One of its major accomplishments was becoming the first state supported school in South Carolina to receive regional accreditation. Today the university offers 350 degree programs at 14 degree-granting colleges. Enrollment continues to grow and in the fall of 2006 it topped out at over 27,000 students. The fields of study include everything from criminal justice and law to literature and philosophy. Many USC alumni teach here today.
